Screening of Love & Friendship (UK, 2016), directed by W. Stillman.
Cinema Arsenale (Vicolo Scaramucci 2), 9 pm.
The first of the events organised in connection with the AIA conference to mark the bicentenary of Jane Austen’s death. Love & Friendship (UK, 2016) is a very recent addition to the rich and ever expanding crop of Austen-inspired movies. Directed by W. Stillman and based on the posthumously published novella, Lady Susan, the film has been widely praised for its ability to capture the experimental feel and witty irreverence of Austen’s juvenilia.
‘The most unlearned and uninformed female who ever dared to be an authoress’: Jane Austen on life, love, and literature.
Palazzo Lanfranchi (Lungarno Galilei 9), 7pm.
As 2017 sees the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen’s death, the show intends to celebrate her with a bilingual (English / Italian) reading from her works, featuring both highlights from her much praised novels and more intimate passages from her letters. An “apericena” will be offered at the end of the performance.
Palazzo Blu (Lungarno Gambacorti 9), 8 pm.
